Here’s the most popular employer on LinkedIn in Ireland.

LinkedIn has hit one million Irish users and to mark the occasion, the social network has released some interesting nuggets about its users…

THE NUMBER OF Irish people who have joined the networking and recruitment social network LinkedIn has officially passed one million. However not all of them actually live in the country, with more than 10 per cent – 100,000 people – living and working abroad.

That’s just some of the information released by the social network – which has an estimated 259 million users worldwide – about its user base in Ireland to coincide with the landmark figure, including details about the most popular companies, colleges and sectors.

The LinkedIn figures show that the three most popular – i.e. most frequently cited companies – among Irish members are, in order, the HSE, AIB and Bank of Ireland. Meanwhile University College Dublin is the most popular university, followed by DIT and then Trinity College Dublin.

LinkedIn said that the hi-tech industry is the biggest sector in terms of employment of users, followed by financial services and construction, reflecting the areas which have high numbers of graduates and jobseekers.

Around 50 per cent of the Irish diaspora members are based in Europe, where they are most likely to work in the hi-tech industry, LinkedIn said, while emigrants living in Australia are most likely to work in construction. Emigrants to the UK are most likely to work in finance while US emigrants are also most likely to be working in technology.

Sharon McCooey of LinkedIn said that Irish members ‘are one of the most engaged audiences in the world’. The social network employs more than 400 people at its international headquarters in Dublin.

The one million figure does not include details on how many people actually use their account. The recent Social Networking Quarterly survey by Ipsos MRBI found that 20 per cent of adults in Ireland have LinkedIn accounts, behind Facebook (56 per cent) and Twitter (27 per cent).

"Ireland is emerging the best place to study nowadays...many students are selecting Ireland because the country offers many good reasons which no other country till now offers", says Mr. Deepak, Education Manager, Career XL Services..
